Though the world has been cleansed of life, there are many souls that remain between the realms of Heaven and Hell. In his travels, Death will be joined by long-time companions, and will cross paths with ancient friends and foes alike. Interacting with those you meet on your journey will hold the key to unearthing the secrets behind an insidious plot for Creation itself.
Death will need to rely on more than just guile and determination as he traverses the Underworld. Thousands of powerful weapons, armor, and amulets can be found and equipped to transform your Death into a heavy-hitting juggernaut, a deadly blur of speed, or terrifying magic user. Complete quests, slay enemies, and ransack treasure chests to discover new additions to your armory. Because loot is randomly generated, there’s no telling what the next kill will bring.
THQ has confirmed that Darksiders II's story will take place in the same time period as the first game, only this time players will take control of the Horseman Death, instead of his brother War. The game will reportedly take place across an entirely new ensemble of maps, confirmed to be double in cumulative size to that of its predecessor. The game will also feature the remaining two horsemen, Strife and Fury, in some capacity.
Darksiders II starts at nearly the same time as the start of the first Darksiders. After War is convicted and sent back to Earth by the Charred Council, they inform the other three Horseman of his fate. The Horseman Death, knowing that his brother War is the most honorable and incorruptible of the four, and would never have started the Apocalypse early, flies into a rage. Believing his brother is victim of a conspiracy, Death defies the Council's orders and sets out on a personal mission to find proof of his brother's innocence. Death travels to the Nether Realms, a place between Heaven and Hell, to call in favors from powerful beings that rule the realm.
The game features a combat arena which will provide the ultimate challenge for Darksiders II players. After completing five of the mode’s 100 unique waves, gamers will be given the option of taking a prize or continuing for another five waves for a chance at even better items. However, if they fall in combat they will leave with nothing. Only the most skilled players will have what it takes to best all 100 waves and claim the greatest prizes.
In addition to this mode, Darksiders II will feature a New Game+ mode which will allow players to carry over their Death for a new game retaining all of their skills and equipment.
